Sir Jack Hayward, Kt. O.B.E

Sir Jack Hayward

Sir Jack Hayward was born in Wolverhampton, England, in 1923. The Hayward family was Mr. Wallace Groves' first partner in the founding of Freeport.

Sir Jack was educated at Northaw Preparatory School and Stowe school in Buckingham, England. He first arrived in Grand Bahama in 1956, when he became a Vice President of The Grand Bahama Port Authority and helped promote the development of Freeport.

In 1976, with Mr. Edward St. George, he took over the management of The Grand Bahama Port Authority Group of Companies. Sir Jack became Chairman of The Grand Bahama Development Company and Freeport Commercial & Industrial Ltd.

In August 1978 Sir Jack, with Edward St. George, bought Mr. Groves' complete shareholding. They subsequently bought out the other shareholders and became equal owners of The Grand Bahama Port Authority Group of Companies.
