In the early '90s at the invitation of GBPA, Southern Company made its first off shore investment and acquired a 50% interest in Freeport Power Company. Now held by Southern's international spin-off, Mirant, as Grand Bahama Power Company, it is a model of corporate excellence in operations, services and returns to both corporate and private investors.
