1. What are service charges for?
The term Service Charges is given to the annual fee cited for city maintenance which ensures accessibility to planned residential and public areas. This may include but is not limited to: installation and maintenance of Thoroughfares, Median and Verge, Derelict Disposal, Drain wells, Street names, Traffic lights, and Pedestrian crossings, road markings, sidewalks, curbing etc.
2. Who is responsible for removing debris from the verge?
Sanitation Services is the primary source used for debris collection. Household (non-construction debris) is removed from the verge side of the street at no additional cost for single family homes and duplexes, once per week. Arrangements can be made by our GBPA Helpline. However, there is a charge for non-construction debris removal from Triples and larger apartment complexes. Construction debris must be arrange directly with Sanitation Services- charges apply.
3. How often the verge is side cutback and mowed?
This is continuous process; vegetation growth is a determination factor which varies in residential subdivisions.
4. Who is responsible for the clearing of easements?
The Grand Bahama Power Company keeps the easement cleared for their power vehicle accessibility to residential power lines.
5. How can I get streetlights is my area?
Streetlights are considered when on an ongoing basis to help mitigate traffic safety concerns/hazard.
6. How to get a drain well installed where there is flooding?
Where there is sustainable flooding an inspection to the area will be performed and evaluated to determine the need.
7. Who is responsible for tree trimmings?
GBPA Helpline will liaise with Sanitation Services who is responsible for verge/tree trimming and other landscaping maintenance (in public areas). This applies for residents who pay service charge to The Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA); other residential areas should contact the privately owned developers. Should trees grow in the power lines, the helpline will liaise GB Power, BTC and Cable Bahamas.
8. Who is responsible for road repairs?
LUSCO (Lucaya Service Company) is responsible for all road repairs in the Lucaya area. The City Maintenance and Management Section of The GBPA is responsible for the repairs in Freeport proper area. See lusco.org for more information.
9. How do I get speed bumps installed in my area?
Controlled by the City Management Department and based on its volume of use, also favourable consideration in areas of institutions/schools/nursery's and dangerous intersections.
10. When street name signs are missing, who replaces them?
Contracted by The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Sanitation Services will replace missing/damage signage in accordance with its location after instruction from City Management.
11. How do you get off the road for an emergency vehicle where curbing is installed?
Please use the first available clearing where curbing is not installed. For you and your passengers' safety, do not drive over curbing.
12. Why is curbing installed?
Due to the extensive beautification of our verges/ median, curbing were installed to protect the landscaping and road edge.
13. Why was new circles constructed?
To maintain a smooth flow of traffic, less maintenance after hurricanes, and to enhance the beauty of our streets.
14. After hurricanes what is the responsibility of the City Management Department?

16. What is the function of the helpline and its incentive?
The helpline is a vital liaison between the communities, GBPA group of companies, Government & Private Enterprises. The helpline was determined to encourage and welcome input of the general public's suggestions to improve our city and better our Communities.

When and why was the Beautification program established?
Established in 1997, following Hurricanes Jeanne & Francis to restore the luster to the City of Freeport, thus implementing projects such as:
- Repair of road verges
- Road Striping
- Re-establishing directional/street signage
- Planting of new greenery
- Construction of new circles
- Installation of new modern traffic circles
- Demolition of abandoned buildings
- Removal of substantial derelict vehicles
What We Do
The function of the City Management Unit including supervising all bidding processes, including public works contract administration, to strategize long and short term traffic flow and road maintenance, to enforce the Freeport Bye-laws and development of new ones as needed, to liaise with Local Government, to oversee Sanitation landscape contracts ensuring highest quality service is provided, to ensure that private subdivisions and developers are proactive in meeting their legal responsibilities to maintaining developments.
